With its Future Analytics Stars Program, the NBA is opening the door to a new generation:

This unique virtual program provides participants with access to mentorship, networking, and development opportunities, as well as real-world insights. The program will connect current executives in these fields with the next generation of leaders in data and analytics and is expected to run for approximately five months beginning in January 2024. Current undergraduate juniors, undergraduate seniors, graduate students, or those early in their careers in similar fields are encouraged to apply.

Leading the program will be analytics professionals from the NBA, WNBA, NBA G League and NBA 2K League. 

 

Participants will engage with content including Basketball Analytics 101, Programming in Python, How to Ace a Data Science Interview, Data Visualization Dos and Don’ts, Networking 101, and candid discussions on growing a successful career in sports analytics.

 

Team introductions to include team focused analytics and statistical methods, team-led trainings, Q&A with industry leaders, panels on best practices, mock interviews, capstone project sponsorship, peer-to-peer conversations, and mentorship.

 

The NBA’s application emphasizes, “The NBA Future Analytics Stars Program (FAS) is committed to driving diversity among all groups within the NBA ecosystem. FAS is designed to attract, develop, and pipeline top talent of future leaders in basketball, business, and marketing analytics. ”
