SACP partners with MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference on Mentorship Program

Increasing Diversity in the Sports Industry

The MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference, in partnership with Wasserman and in association with the Sports Analytics Club Program (SACP), is focused on increasing diversity in the sports industry, as is the SACP.

To amplify that mission, SACP is supporting the MIT Sloan Conference’s new Mentorship Program, presented by Wasserman, by sponsoring eight college students who are alumni of SACP Clubs in 2021 and 2022.

Each year, four college students who are alumni of SACP Clubs will attend the MIT Sloan Conference, meet with conference co-founders Daryl Morey and Jessica Gelman and interact with professionals from across the sports analytics landscape. (For 2021, these activities will be conducted remotely.)

The MIT Sloan Conference Mentorship Program is geared toward people from underrepresented populations with an interest in working in sports.

This partnership and the Mentorship Program lay the foundation for the career development endgame of the SACP 6-19 Data Science education infrastructure,” said SACP CEO Robert “Dean” Clayton.

Founded in 2006, the annual MIT Sloan Conference is chaired by Gelman and organized by MIT Sloan students. The SACP, founded in 2017, became an official partner of the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference in 2021.
