The Sports Science Analyst will collaborate with other groups within Baseball Research and Baseball Systems to analyze data and provide data-enabled insights and recommendations on training and injury prevention strategies. This department enables the organization to leverage data, analytics, and research techniques to identify and develop players who will contribute to the long term on-field success of the Minnesota Twins.

 

Requirement Experience and Education:

  • Academic background in kinesiology, biomechanics, engineering, sports science, physical therapy, or another closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with biomechanical data collection, analysis, and interpretation, including but not limited to: markered and/or markerless motion capture, IMU’s, force plates, etc. driving exceptional skills communicating biomechanical concepts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the creation, validation, and maintenance of models to assess movement efficiency and its relation to player talent, production, and health.
    • Leverage internal and external (public research) data sources to assist in scoping projects.
    • Work with Sports Science staff to define requirements and establish priority alignment for research project outputs.
  • Develop strategies and tools for communicating findings to Player Development, Major League, Sports Medicine, and Sports Performance staffs.
  • Work hands-on with coaches and players to conduct player testing.
  • Collaborate with Baseball Technology, Player Development, and R&D Leadership on identifying gaps in technology approaches and vetting vendors. Use statistical analysis tools to assess the quality of (new) data sources, potentially including wearables, assessments, force plates, on-field tracking, and biomechanics.
  • Collaborate with other members of Baseball Research and Baseball Systems groups to create production-caliber analysis. Work with Baseball Systems team to advise on the creation of reports and dashboards to responsibly communicate model implications to coaches, players, analysts, and front office decision makers.
  • Identify and integrate scientific best practices for Sports Science. Stay current with emerging research and technology in the field of Sports Science.
  • Collaborate with the Manager, Sports Science and Research Lead, Sports Science to provide actionable insights and recommendations based on sports science data to stakeholders at the Minor League level focusing on pitching, batting, sports performance, and sports medicine.
